The dress is purchased, you've tracked down the perfect shoes to match and even managed to snag a statement necklace to complete your holiday look. The only thing that could ruin the whole thing now would be the same old hairstyle you sport day after day, but who wants to take a chance on a look that falls flat? We decided to consult an expert when it comes to the subject of hair, and who better than Maria Rhys, owner of Identity salons and a hairstylist herself? TALK Greenville posed a few questions to Rhys on how we ordinary people might get that glamorous red-carpet look of our very own.

TG: So many of us want a different look for evening but don't know where to start — any suggestions?

MR: The biggest mistake women make when it comes to styling hair for evening is they simply aren't familiar with the variety of styles out there and, secondly, they don't style their hair differently often enough to be comfortable doing it.

TG: What are some easy tips we can all try this holiday season?

MR: Well, obviously the easiest thing to do would be to go to a stylist with a picture of the style you are thinking of trying. I would recommend someone who regularly does a lot of evening looks and up-dos. If doing a more elaborate style at home, women should try not washing their hair immediately before styling or using baby powder or a dry shampoo to add fullness and to make the hair easier to style.

TG: So exactly what are the best products for evening hair?

MR: Lots of hairspray with extra hold, texture powder or dry shampoo and Moroccan oil to smooth down frizzy or fly away pieces.

TG: What are the best looks for short hair?

MR: Texture, pumped up volume, or very sleek, depending on the face shape. Women with shorter styles should also try rhinestones or pearls in the hair — accessories are not just for long hair.

TG: And longer hair looks?

MR: I would recommend an up-do, or lots of curls — relaxed curl — long, loose curls. Extensions are also an option for women, either temporary ones for the night or more permanent fusion extensions. Both will give instant length and fullness.
