These days, upscale retail shops are experiencing a resurgent popularity as people search for ways to cut family budgets without giving up the latest styles. Perhaps the first such successful operation would be The Opportunity Shop, which was begun in 1948 as the first permanent ways-and-means project for The Junior League of Greenville. The shop later moved to its present location, 118 Greenacre Road. It serves approximately 2000 customers a month, making it the chief fundraiser of the organization. Money raised at The Nearly New Shop, as the store is known these days, provides funds to support programs and projects of the Junior League and as a training ground for members as well as an outlet for the community to purchase fabulous items at even better prices.
