Home of the world's best

Deluxe dining can be interpreted in all kinds of ways, but maybe none more clearly than in this photo of a former downtown Greenville restaurant, The Deluxe Diner. In addition to cafes and restaurants, Greenville had several of these small diners, some of which were actually converted railroad dining cars. Located at 336 Main St. and operated by James A. Tzouvelekas, the Deluxe Diner was between the Carolina Theatre and Mackey's Mortuary. In this photograph, the Carolina parking lot is to the right of the diner, with the Ottaray Hotel in the background. Serving complete lunches and dinners, the Deluxe advertised itself as the “Home of the World's Best.”
